chrisjpainter
Alas. What a top bloke he came across as. I remember him and Richard Hammond talking about their respective massive accidents they had and what effect it had on them, as well as the effect on their families. Best F1 driver to never win the world champ? I'd say so.
JohnfromUK
Some years ago he drove one of my neighbour's classic car in a charity event. Great man and did a lot for charity.
TRINITY
Once saw an old black and white documentary of Stirling in an endurance race, possibly isle of man. He pulled up for a pit stop. A funnel was put into the petrol tank right behind his seat. Petrol was then poured in with Jerry cans. Whilst waiting for the fill up he lit a cig for a quick drag ! How times have changed
Walker570
No finer driver when the human input required was greater than the technology. His drive round the Mille Miglia course is still unbeaten. He did that aged 25yrs with Jenks in the passenger seat reading notes from what in all intents and purposes looked like a toilet roll. Incredible drive. Edited April 12, 2020 by Walker570

Gordon R
Aside from his obvious driving talent, he was one of the true sportsmen - see below:- Quote He famously lost out on the F1 title in 1958 to compatriot Mike Hawthorn after vouching for his rival and preventing him being disqualified when he was accused of reversing on track in the late-season Portuguese Grand Prix. Pistol p
A huge loss to both the British sporting heritage and the motorsport world as a whole. He was very sporting, genial and thorough man. I was lucky enough to work on his own personal Mercedes once, something I hold with pride.
