Davyo
Anybody else not bothered/ lost interest? For the last few years it's been a bit of a effort just to get the tree out.Last year it went up on xmas eve and went down on Boxing day.We already had presents in for Ben (13 years old) but went to Newcastle last friday to get a few bits.We ended up just sat in a cafe watching the crowds and thought 'its mad we just cant be bothered'.So a joint decision was made to cancel xmas.Ben got his presents when he got home from school & looked rather puzzled. So on the 25th if its dry,it will bikes on the car and a day in Hamsterly forest. Lord Geordie
Sadly due to working in retail, losing mum, and dad being diagnosed with Cancer, I have lost a lot of interest in Christmas. its not the same without Mum. Also having to deal with high volumes of cheap Chinese trash flooding into my warehouse, having no space to move, no staff to work the delivery, and working for a company of such ineptitude, it’s a drain on my mental state.. busiest time of the year, we need the stock out for customers, running on a skeleton crew, then head office tell us they want a £1800 saving in wages last week. Sent home staff and then complain the work isn’t getting done? My heart sunk on Monday morning when I walked into the warehouse to find space for 8 pallets of stock, having 48 booked in before 12 mid day. luckily for me, this year is the first since I started there that I have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day AND Boxing Day off. I will not be doing any extra shifts either. its now I realise how bad it is for nurses, police, fire crews, coast guard, military etc! TIGHTCHOKE
I have not bothered with a Xmas tree or any decorations for years, but see others putting their decorations up earlier every year. It is fine if you have children, mine are 18 and 22 and do not live at home. Oh and I will be at work on Xmas Day, as I have on and off over many years. It does get to the point of being rather trying what with all the advertisments online and on TV from the run up to Black Fridy, Cyber Monday and anything else the marketing men come up with. sam triple
im not bothered only really do it for my 8yr old daughter ,each year its more of a struggle to buy the mrs something , we are not well off but not poor either so theres no need to wait till xmas to buy something if we need /want it , X mas spirit went when the shops started having boxing day sales on starting at 5am , feel sorry for retail staff who only get 1 or 2 days off

bruno22rf
Just come back from visiting my bro in Lincs. While we were there we were taken into S****horpe for a day and that's put me off Christmas for life. Never seen so many over weight trackie wearing yokels in all my life - the air is a mix of fried onions and fag smoke although the sight of Tinsel wrapped around the bars on the windows of the Charity shops added a certain ambience. henry d
Missed lots of Christmas days due to work so I don't intend to stop, we give each other and family a few gifts and enjoy time together. One tradition we have is to go for a walk a few days before and collect fir branches, ivy, holly etc to make the table decoration, it isn't all about the excesses, little things count for more. Scully
I miss my kids ( 22 and 20 ) at christmas, as I don’t get to spend as much time with them as I would like since my ex and me split, so tend to make the most of it when they’re home from Uni’. I’ll be making as big a fuss of them as I possibly can, and intend to cook another Christmas dinner for them when they come to me on Boxing Day. Christmas is about kids and family; I love it. Centrepin
Christmas is really special to my youngest grandchildren and we do all we can to keep the dream alive. My oldest grandchildren now go along with it all bit unfortunately no long believe. As for me and the Mrs, if we want anything we buy it when we want it, but give a token present xmas day in front of the kids. I missed five christmases on the trot, plus others when my kids were little due to being "Out of the country on Her Majestys service" you can't get those times back. SpringDon
Not sure cancelling is a majority choice based on the crowds at our Christmas tree farm. I missed breakfast and was on my chinstrap by 3pm because it was so busy.

powler
I like Xmas but it is so commercialised, and some have forgotten its about family and friends. My wife works most of Xmas and only has Xmas day off and as its only us on the day I will be making the most of our time together, a port and brandy in the morning as we prep lunch together, then take the day easy. Diver One
I was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks before Xmas 2012 so the last few Christmas have been interesting .....thankfully my tests are now showing clear. Got up,Xmas day one year, felt 💩, cooked lunch for 14 and went back to bed. We are blessed with 7 grandchildren all born since 2010 and I honestl think that is what has kept me going this year we will be having Xmas day and up until, the 30th with my daughter, son in law, 1 year old and 4 year old granddaughters in the Cyprus. Then back here for NYE with my son, daughter, partners, 5 grandchildren and my 88 year old mum Xmas may not be for everyone BUT this isn't a rehearsal. We've got one shot at this so live it the best way you can....and spare a thought for those that didn't make it
Retsdon
Most definitely not cancelled. Just by chance really, our exam schedule finishes on the 21st December (no official Christmas in Saudi!) and although we're not supposed to actually leave until grades are in and cleared, I'm getting someone else to cover for me and mitching off early. So I'll be back in Thailand and home on the 22nd to spend Christmas with Mrs R and the kids. I haven't seen them for four months, so I'm really, really looking forward to it. Turkeys are hard to find in Thailand and last year the one Mrs R manged to find in Macro was so thin and tough it must have starved to death, either that or died of old age. So this year I'm packing a frozen American imported bird in my suitcase and it can defrost en route. We've been invited round to an old friend's very nice house that has a lovely covered patio overlooking a large lake where we'll have the afternoon meal. The plan is that we'll do the turkey and trimmings and take it all round with us, and the wives are going to liaise on the rest of the food. Tod and I will take care of the liquid side of things! So, in the morning it's presents under the tree; carols on the sound system; and the usual pre-lunch flap. Then in the afternoon into the evening it's a traditional dinner with a nice wine or two, and perhaps an after dinner digestif from the Cognac region afterwards while the kids play with their new Christmas presents with their friends. A long way from Saudi with family, good food, and good company - happy days indeed!
Bobba
We've had one Xmas day already. Our younger son lives and works in Singapore. His company required him to be in the UK for two weeks. So, last weekend he and the daughter in law came home. Our elder boy and family joined us and we had a family Xmas day. A fresh tree, lights in the hall, the works. With the loft conversion everybody stayed over. As we get older (I'm 76) the opportunities to have our family around us get fewer and fewer. So we make the most of every opportunity.
washerboy
It's time off work for me and that's about it. Stopped visiting family who never returned the favour year after year. The gym is open 24hrs 365 days a year so will still train over the holidays. My 21 year old son will be home from Preston University, so probably have a few hours clay shooting.
